Scope. This policy is published by Kat & Elk and covers all Kat & Elk services and products — including The Updait website at theupdait.com and our downloadable applications such as TreBranch. Where a product handles data differently, that difference is called out below.

The short version

We collect only what we need to run our services. Our downloadable desktop apps run entirely on your device and collect nothing. Our website collects the minimum needed to give you an account and process payments. We do not sell your personal information, and we never have.

Information we collect

On the website (theupdait.com). When you create an account or subscribe, we collect:

Your email address and authentication details, used to sign you in and secure your account.
Billing information when you purchase a subscription. Payments are processed by our payment provider; we do not store your full card number on our servers.
Content you submit to features that use AI (for example, generated text or analysis). This may be sent to our AI processing providers solely to produce the result you requested.
Standard technical logs (such as IP address and browser type) kept for security and to operate the service.

In our desktop apps (e.g., TreBranch). These applications run fully offline on your device. They have no account, no sign-in, and no analytics, and they make no network connections. Your models and files are stored only on your computer and are never uploaded to us. A single local preference (such as whether you have dismissed a welcome screen) is kept on your device and contains no personal information.

How we use information

To provide, maintain, and improve our services.
To authenticate you and keep your account secure.
To process subscriptions and payments.
To send you transactional messages (for example, receipts or account notices).
To produce results for AI-powered features you choose to use.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.

Service providers

We rely on a small number of trusted providers to operate the website, such as hosting, authentication, database, payment processing, email delivery, and AI inference. These providers process data only on our behalf and under their own privacy and security terms. Our downloadable apps use none of these — they run entirely on your device.

Cookies & local storage

The website uses cookies and similar local storage strictly to keep you signed in and to remember basic preferences. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Data retention & your choices

We keep account data for as long as your account is active. You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information at any time by contacting us. Because our desktop apps store data only on your device, you control that data entirely — deleting the files removes it.

Children's privacy

Our products are general-purpose tools and are not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
